Guide to the Beautiful Tamarindo in Costa Rica

Tamarindo is located in Guanacaste Province in Costa Rica on the Nicoya Peninsula. Tamarindo is the name of the town and the district either. The beautiful town of Tamarindo itself has a population of 500 but the district is about 3.525. On special holidays and during vacation season this number can swell up to 5.000 people. Tamarindo in Costa Rica being the most developed town on the central west coast, offers tourists a great experience with its beautiful beaches, wide range of hotels and lodges. Eco-tourism and surfing are just the two main attractions of Tamarindo but tourist visiting the town must not forget to discover its beautiful national parks either.

Surfing at Playa Grande

Playa Grande is located by Rio Metapalo, separated from the beautiful Tamarindo. Dozens of tide pools, beautiful beaches, chance of surfing, that’s what Playa Grande can offer for its tourists. Playa Grande is an ideal place for surfing and it hosts international surf competitions. Tourists looking for luxurious accommodations can visit Playa Langosta. Playa Langosta located near Rio San Francisco is a beautiful white-sand beach.

Santa Rosa National Park

The park is located in the northwestern of the Province of Guanacasteand was founded in 1971 being the first national park in Costa Rica. The large forests of the park giving way to the beautiful sand-beaches offers a wonderful attraction for tourists visiting Tamarindo in Costa Rica. Santa Rosa is a great place for campers having lots of campgrounds for those who want to spend the night there.

Rincon de la Vieja National Park

The park is a collection of tropical forests and geological wonders being home of more volcanoes. Rincon de la Vieja, with nine craters is the main attraction of the park  located in the beautiful Tamarindo district of Costa Rica. There is also Santa Maria Volcano, the highest peak of the volcano is 1916 m. Volcanic activities were frequent during the 1960’s, Von Seebach crater  is the only one active now.

Tamarindo National Wildlife Refuge

Comprising about 1000 acres of protected forest, including estuaries and mangroves,  Tamarindo National Wildlife Refuge is the greatest attraction of the beautiful Tamarindo in Costa Rica. Tours of animal and plant life, including canoe tours can be arranged from the town itself. In district of Tamarindo there are other beautiful national parks such as  Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas, at the north of Tamarindo, Parque Nacional Barra Honda  and Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Ostional are also close to the town.
