Visiting Costa Rica you don’t have to be afraid of finding a place to stay, most towns have a wide range of places for your accommodation. Even the smallest locations have their lodgings. Prices for accommodation in Costa Rica are higher than in other Central American countries. Hotels are the larger places to stay in Costa Rica.

Those tourists who can afford a higher price for an accommodation will have dozens of large and comfortable hotels to choose from, offering all types of activities for the guests. Smaller places to stay are called hostals, posadas and pensiones. You can also find private guesthouses called casas and cabinas, which are very common in coastal areas of Costa Rica.

Eco-lodges and Resorts

In more popular places of Costa Rica, like Manuel Antonio tourist can find a higher price type accommodation, called the eco-lodges. In the area of outstanding natural beauty many of them have their own swimming pools, jacuzzis and spas. These are the most expensive accommodations in Costa Rica. These high prices can fall in out of season times when you might get a few nights for $150.

Camping on the Beach

Tourists who prefer camping usually can find private campsites in the beach towns. Most of them are well-equipped with good facilities including place for cooking grills and drinking and also lavatories. You may also ask the staff to look after your tent and clothes while you’re down at the beach. Those who does not prefer camping “in the wild ”but want to stay close to the beach can also find another type of accommodation. Some lower price hotels let you pitch your tent on the grounds and use the washrooms and showers of the hotel for a fee.

More than Two Hundred Hostels

A cheap type of accommodation in Costa Rica are backpackers’ and hostels. Most of the hostels have a wide range of double rooms and also triple and family rooms. For a price of $5-6 you have a nice room, free internet access and maybe even luggage storage ad laundry. There are only four official youth hostels in Costa Rica:  Jardines Arenal,  Hostel Casa Yoses,  Vista Serena Hostel and  Mi Casa Hostel.

Cold Water Pensiones

Pensiones are lower price accommodations in Costa Rica. Their price are way better than any other places’s at the tourist hotels. Standards of these pensions are high but do not expect too much. Usually showers with cold water, clean but dim rooms. Hotels give you more facilities than the other type of accommodation. For a higher price category they give you hot watered private bath and towels and if you’re lucky air conditioning also.
